Some time ago Firmenich created three specialties containing natural Oud Assafi: Oud Maleki – 0.20%, Oud Samrat – 1.2% and Oud Anokha – 3%.
The best way of describing something is by comparing.
While Oud Synth. 10760 E (184007 nowadays) feels like a nicely modified Cypriol Heart oil, Samrat is completely another oud genre. Texture of this base feels scratchy, while 10760 E is smooth and balsamic. Samrat is really dark, a bit animalic and dries down into super amber base which is probably Ambrocenide with Amberketal, hence the scratchy animalic texture. I’m also detecting a generous portion of Cashmeran. Oud Synth. 10760 E, on the other hand, is linear, fading smoothly with no changes.
I like both bases, but I’m just too sensitive to super ambers, so I’m still gonna go with 10760 E / 184007 for most of the oud implementations. The only formula from my collection that uses Samrat is One Million Golden Oud at 0.40%. Oud Synth. 10760 E is much more popular in modern perfumery. Nevertheless, Samrat will fit in nicely in trace amounts for boosting your Oud accord.
